So I know you can walk into a TNT stand or a Phantom store and grab stuff off the shelf, but what about buying online? I see all these websites selling 1.4G stuff and shipping it. Is that actually legal? Does it depend on what state you’re in? I’m in Ohio if that matters. Some sites say they ship everywhere, some say they only ship to certain states. Gets kinda confusing. Anyone here actually ordered consumer fireworks online and had them delivered? How’d that work out?
I’ve ordered from a few sites before. The key thing is most legit online retailers only ship to states where consumer fireworks are legal. Ohio you’re fine for stuff like fountains, sparklers, novelties. But actual aerial stuff? That gets trickier. Some will ship 1.4G to Ohio, some won’t. You gotta check their shipping policy. Phantom has a store locator thing on their site. TNT’s similar. Independent sites are more hit or miss.
Good question Danny. The short answer is yes, but it depends heavily on state laws. Ohio allows consumer fireworks (1.4G) including aerials since they updated the law a few years back. Most reputable online retailers will check your shipping address and only ship what’s legal in your state. We actually covered some of this in the Fireworks Guide section on the site — there’s a breakdown of state-by-state regs that might help. Definitely worth reading before you place an order. And like Steve said, make sure the site you’re buying from is legit. Lots of fly-by-night operations out there.
