I’m kinda curious about the logistics side of things. If you’re importing fireworks from China (like Liuyang), what’s the actual timeline from placing an order to getting it at a US warehouse?
I’m guessing it’s not just a couple weeks. Is there a lot of customs paperwork? And do most people use a freight forwarder or do the manufacturers handle shipping directly? A friend told me it takes like 2-3 months for a full container but idk if that’s accurate.
Steve, I looked into this a while back. From what I gathered talking to a few guys who’ve done container orders, you’re looking at roughly:
– 2-4 weeks for production (depending on how busy the factory is)
– 1-2 weeks for consolidation and booking at port
– 3-5 weeks actual ocean freight to the US west coast (longer if you’re going to the east coast)
– 1-2 weeks for customs clearance and trucking to final warehouseSo yeah 2-3 months total is pretty realistic for a full container. And I don’t think any of the manufacturers handle the shipping directly – you’ll definitely need a freight forwarder who knows hazmat. The paperwork for DG Class 1.4 isn’t something you wanna DIY tbh.
Jim’s breakdown is spot on. One thing worth adding – customs can be unpredictable with fireworks even though they’re 1.4G. I’ve seen containers get flagged for additional inspection and that alone can add 2-3 weeks. Definitely budget some buffer time in your planning.
If you poke around the Transportation forum here there’s a few threads from people who’ve gone through the whole import process. Lots of practical tips on freight forwarders and what to expect with the paperwork.
