the cheap chinese electric igniters off amazon actually work fine for consumer cakes. you run the little clip-on fuse heads onto the cakes fuse, wire em to a firing box and boom from 20ft back. dont bother with the fancy wireless ones unless you’re doing a whole show. just make sure the fuse actually lights — some of those heads spark but dont catch the visco fuse so wrap the tip in a bit of tape and it lights every time.

honestly for a single 500g cake the simplest cheap answer is a longer piece of green visco fuse taped onto the factory fuse. gives you like 3-4 seconds to step way back, no wires no batteries. igniters are neat but overkill for one cake. if you do go electric the talon-style clip igniters are the move.

Alright so I got a big 500g cake for an end of summer get together and I’d rather not be leaning over the thing with a lighter or a punk when it goes off. whats the safest way to light something like that from a bit of a distance? I’ve seen folks use fuse extensions and those little remote electric igniters but tbh idk which ones actually work. dont wanna spend a fortune either.
