The 4th feels like it just ended and now Labor Day is creeping up. I’m the type who waits till the weekend before and then scrambles, but this year I wanna do it right. How far out do you guys actually sit down and plan the sequence, fuse everything, that whole deal? Is three weeks overkill or about right for a backyard show with maybe 20-30 cakes and a finale rack?
Three weeks is fine if you’re not doing anything crazy. I sit down about two weeks out, sketch the order on paper first, then build the boards the weekend before. For 20-30 cakes you don’t need to overthink it — just don’t leave fusing till the morning of, that’s where I always screw up and it gets dark before I’m done taping.
