I know it’s still a few weeks out but I got burned last year when my electronic match setup decided to act up mid-finale. Learned that lesson the hard way lol.
This weekend I’m gonna pull the ol’ firing module out of storage, check the batteries, test all the cues, the whole nine. Figure it’s easier to catch a dead channel now than in the dark at 9pm during the big show.
What’s everyone else’s pre-show routine? You test everything weeks ahead or just wing it the day of?
Lol I got burned the exact same way last July. One cue just refused to fire and the whole finale was off-beat. Never again.
Now I do basically what you said – I pull the module out early, charge everything, and run a full dry test on all the cues a week or two out. I even keep a spare igniter for each cake as backup now, it’s like $3 extra and saves the headache. My pre-show routine didn’t exist until I learned the hard way, but now I wouldn’t skip it.
Good habit to get into, testing early. Way too many guys wait till show night and then it’s chaos trying to troubleshoot a dead cue with people waiting.
