tbf most of the risk is the state you land in, not the border itself. Ohio and Michigan both have their own rules so its worth a quick search. the CPSC approval stuff is federal but that’s about what can be sold, not really what you can put in your trunk for a weekend. I’ve made that exact drive a few times with fountains and never got hassled, just keep em boxed and don’t speed lol.
Driving from Ohio up to Michigan for a family thing in a couple weeks and I was gonna toss a few fountains and small cakes in the trunk to shoot there. but now I’m second guessing myself 鈥?is carrying consumer fireworks across state lines by car even legal? I know michigan is a no-aerial state or whatever. is it a federal thing or just depends on the state borders? dont wanna lose em or get a ticket.
The states that border each other usually have wildly different rules so there’s no one answer. Biggest gotcha is that just possessing a firework in your own car changes everything once you cross into a state where it’s banned — you can get hit with a fine and confiscation even for a sealed box. If you’re gonna do it, know the exact law for every state on your route, not just the destination.
its not really a federal thing for consumer stuff. crossing a state line you’re mostly dealing with whatever the state you’re entering says is legal. michigan is strict on aerials so if you only got fountains and small cakes you’re probably fine, but honestly check before you go. transporting in your own car is sketchier than it sounds if you get pulled over and the cop decides to make a thing of it. keep em in the trunk, unopened, away from people.
