Maybe it’s just me but it feels like the prices on a lot of the mid-tier cakes are still sitting high even now that the 4th is behind us. Got a catalog in the mail this week and some of the 500g’s are up a good $10-15 over last year. Are we just stuck with whatever the market decided this season, or does anyone think wholesale comes back down before Labor Day? Curious what other folks are seeing.
Can confirm it’s not just you – I run a seasonal stand and our wholesale sheets came in higher again this year. Freight surcharges and the factory price bumps are still baked into everything. I wouldn’t hold my breath for a Labor Day dip. The clearance stuff is mostly slow-movers, not the good 500g’s you actually want.

Ugh, that tracks. I wanna pick up a couple 500g cakes for a small Labor Day cookout and everything I look at is up. I’ve been told to just wait for the post-Labor Day clearance, but that’s peak season, I actually wanna shoot em not stockpile. Guess I’m paying the premium this year.
Also worth noting – the whole supply chain is still catching up from the 4th rush. A lot of importers sold through early and the container lead times are up. That’s part of why shelves look thin and prices stay high.
