How long can you safely store 1.4G fireworks in a garage before they go bad?

Hey y’all, quick question. I bought way too many cakes last 4th of July and stashed maybe 5-6 cases in my garage. It gets hot as heck in there during the summer, easily 90+ degrees some days.

Do they actually go bad or get unstable sitting in heat like that? I’m worried about next year’s show being a dud, or worse, something igniting on its own. How long is too long to keep them around?

Good question. Heat does degrade them over time actually. Sitting at 90+ for weeks isn’t great – the powder can absorb moisture when it cools down at night and then you get clumping. I wouldn’t say they’ll randomly ignite or anything, but the performance next year might be noticeably worse. Keep them off the concrete floor (moisture wicks up) and throw a tarp under them.

I lost a whole case of shells once to a humid shed. They still went off but some just kinda fizzled. Honestly the garage heat in summer is rough, if you got a basement or a closet inside the house, that’s way better. Dry and cool is the key, and keep ’em sealed in the original packaging.
