Got a decent haul after the 4th clearance sales and I’m wondering if I should find a better spot than the garage. It gets seriously hot and humid here in the summer.
If you keep cakes and shells in a plastic tote, do they actually go bad after a year or two, or is that just old wives’ tale? Trying to figure out if I should burn through everything by New Year’s.
Humidity is the real killer, not time. If your garage swings hot and damp, the powder can clump and fuses can get mushy. Dry, cool-ish, off the concrete floor is the move.
A sealed plastic tote with a couple desiccant packs goes a long way. Two year old stuff that was stored right usually still fires fine tbh.

If it smells fine and the fuse isn’t brittle, you’re probably good for NyE.
came back to this thread after cleaning out my garage and yeah desiccant packs made a real difference this year. swapped em out and a cake that was sealed for two summers still broke clean. humidity really is the whole game.
Good thread. The short version is dry, cool, and out of direct sunlight keeps consumer stuff fine for years — the ‘expiration’ worry is mostly about moisture getting to the lift charge.
