Usually I wait til the last minute and pay full price, but this year I noticed the big chains still have a decent chunk of their 4th stock sitting around marked down. Grabbed a couple 500g cakes and a case of cans this morning. Are the leftovers any worse quality or is it all the same stuff just older? Just me or is this the usual end-of-season play?

Same stuff, just sat in a warehouse a few months. Fireworks don’t really ‘expire’ as long as they were stored dry — the lift charge and color comps are sealed in the tube/cake so unless the box got wet or crushed it’s fine. The marked-down stock is usually from stores trying to clear shelf space before fall. I’ve shot those leftovers for NYE with zero duds. Only thing I’d check is the bottom of the cake for any water staining.

i do this every year lol. the week or two after the 4th is the best time to grab cakes, some places mark em 40-50% off to clear out. just keep the receipt and check the boxes aren’t beat up. my only rule is don’t buy anything where the packaging’s been opened, even if it’s cheap.
