Starting to plan my Labor Day show and I’m looking for a good finale cake that doesn’t cost a fortune. Last year I used the Excalibur and it was solid but I’ve heard the prices went up this season. Anyone got recommendations for cakes under that still put on a decent show? I usually run a 30-40 cake show and need something that’ll close it out with a bang without emptying my wallet.
Ive been looking at the World Class Red Lantern cake – it’s like and puts on a solid show for the price. 500g, 25 shots, nice breaks. Not the most insane finale ever but for the money its hard to beat. Also Brothers has a few cakes under that are decent for finales.
Red Lantern is solid for the money for sure. I’d also throw in the Brothers Majestic – I got one for around $60 this spring and it had some really nice color breaks, not just the usual gold and white. Also if you can still find any of the World Class Platinum cakes from this season, those were putting out finale-worthy effects for under $80. The supply situation is rough right now post-250 but if you hunt around you can find deals.
Already got my finale rack half built lol. Going with a 36-cake setup this year since I got a bunch of 200g cakes left over from July 4th that I wanna use up as filler before the good stuff.
My plan is using like 8-10 of the higher end cakes as the backbone and then the cheaper stuff just for noise and color fill. Got a good deal on some Brothers cans thatll work great for the finale burst.
Anyone else doing a multi-tier setup or just sticking with a single row?
Honestly I’ve had better luck doing a small rack of 200g cakes for the finale than dropping big money on one giant cake. Gives more variety and if one duds you’re not stuck with a boring ending. This year I’m just using up whatever good stuff I grabbed in clearance, Labor Day budget’s already shot lol.
I grabbed a case of Brothers High Voltage a few weeks ago at a tent sale and honestly for $55 it punches way above its weight. 500g, 25 shots, lots of crackle and color. Seen a few people mention Red Lantern which is also solid.
If you’re really trying to stretch the budget tho, don’t sleep on the 200g cake racks. I did a 12-cake 200g finale last year for like $80 total and it looked better than half the single big cakes I’ve bought. Variety > size sometimes.
